Imagick

The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.

Why not start with a softball for one of my first blog entries? In setting up this blog, I noticed a few things to fix right from the beginning. One of the first things I did was update the version of PHP. This triggered a performance recommendation concerning the Imagick extension. Imagick is a PHP extension to create and modify images using the ImageMagick library.

You can ignore the warnings about inactive plug-ins and themes in the picture below as I was experimenting with a few and hadn’t deleted them. I also need to set up SSL/TLS, which may end up being a future blog post.

The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.

I assumed the recommended modules would have been installed by default. In any case, this is a pretty easy fix. If you would like to see the list of recommended extensions: https://make.wordpress.org/hosting/handbook/server-environment/#php-extensions

  • Log in to your cPanel and click the ‘Select PHP Version’ option. I am using namecheap as my hosting provider so you may not have this option if using a different provider.

Check the box next to the imagick extension

Viola! It is not often that you get an easy button but I’ll take it!
